牛津教材是按照“话题——功能——结构——任务”相结合的思想编排的，以话题为主线，任务为主导，辅以功能和结构项目，有效培养综合运用英语的能力。每一单元的内容围绕某一话题展开听说读写活动，内容联系社会，贴近学生生活实际，富有时代信息，体现时代精神。其中涉及到的教育题材就有人与人、人与社会、人与自然、野生动物保护、生态平衡、生命健康、自然灾害、粮食与人口危机、废弃物处理、环境污染与环境保护等内容。
