2011年版义务教育阶段英语新课程标准指出:义务教育阶段的英语课程具有“工具性”和“人文性”双重性质。英语是一门语言。而语言是工具但又超越于工具。初中英语课程承担着提高学生综合人文素养的任务,即学生通过英语课程能够开阔视野,丰富生活经历,形成跨文化意识,增强爱国主义精神,发展创新能力,形成良好的品格和正确的人生观与价值观。工具性和人文性统一的英语课程有利于学生的终身发展。教育学家乔姆斯基曾指出,语言学习实际是一种由内向外的(精神)培植和生长。在新课标的指导下,初中英语新教材在2012年与广大师生见面。在对新教材的解析中我们发现,新教材在突出英语教学“人文性”方面自成体系,能够达到“润物细无声”的效果。具体分析如下:

一、新教材引导学生培养良好的习惯

是否真有幸福并非取决于天性,而是取决于人的习惯(爱比克泰德)。新教材注重对学生以下习惯的培养:

(一)学生文明用语的习惯。七年级开始接触英语的时候,开篇就是“Good morning!”让学生在温暖的问候声中步入英语学习的殿堂。在七年级上册,学生印象最深刻的肯定是Excuse me. I'm sorry. Thanks a lot. What can I do for you?...到八年级下册could you please… / Would you mind doing等目标语言都在培养学生礼貌用语。普劳图斯说“习惯是在习惯中养成的”,学生每次对话中都不自觉得用上这些礼貌用语,自然也养成了礼貌的习惯。通过语言的教育,陶冶学生的情操,净化他们的心灵,增加交往的信心和勇气,使他们的日常用语趋向规范和得体。

(二)良好的生活习惯。在七年级上册Unit4的阅读文章,通过比较两姐妹房间的哪一个整洁,培养学生爱整洁、爱干净的习惯,七下Unit2 What time do you go to school?培养学生养成良好的作息习惯,Unit4 Don't eat in class.引导学生遵守规章制度的习惯,延续到八年级下册Unit3 Could you please clean you room?引导学生劳动的习惯……

(三)良好的学习习惯。新教材的设计注重在听前和读前为学生提供相关话题和图片,设定相应的问题和讨论,为学生听读做好铺垫;听中、读中设计的问题具有渐进性,能帮助学生通过探究式的学习把握和突破重难点;教材还设计了很多pairwork,groupwork,引导学生合作学习。每单元设计self check部分让学生对知识进行自我复习检测,都在引导学生形成良好的学习习惯。

新目标英语《Go For It》作为我市初中英语课改实验教材在诸多专家与一线教师的不同认识与体会中仅使用了一年后便退出了历史舞台。而如今八年级的学生乃是这次课改中有幸接触两套新教材的宠儿。但要做好《Go For It》七年级教材和《New Standard English》八年级教材在教学中的衔接工作,我们还得花许多的心思。要做好《Go For It 》与《New Standard English》的衔接,我们首先要对两套教材有一个清晰的了解。深入透彻的分析有助于我们更好地把握已有的材料以及对新知识的掌控。以下我们对两套教材进行分析。

《Go For It》教材的特点:

优点:本套教材图文并茂,版面设计充满新意,而且在内容和结构方面富有创意,具有时代感和现代气息,贴近学生的生活。同时该教材实用性强,注重交际。每个单元的选材都来源于学生的学习和生活。教材编写紧紧地与学生的年龄特征、认知结构、生活经验联系在一起。针对中国学生学英语普遍存在的“聋哑病”,教材设计了大量的听说读写材料。每个单元都有语言活动,且内容不同,形式多样.

不足:

1、新教材的操作难度大,课时不足,有效课程资源过少。

新目标英语每个单元都围绕一个具体的话题展开,而且很多话题较新,教师处理起来有一定的难度。尽管我们一直强调集体备课,但教师手头参考资料少,在备课时需要完全靠自己精心编排方能授课。再加上每个单元相对独立,不像以往那样知识体系性强,部分教师还不能完全适应。更何况教师除了写教案、上课、反思、还要批作业、听课、和学生谈心,还要应付各种检查等。教师真正能坐下来精心备课的时间太少了。没有空闲的时间,就不会有深层次的思考。

2、新教材的词汇量太大,学生产生畏难情绪,影响了教师的授课质量。

“新目标英语”第一册有词汇700个左右,第二册约450个,第三册约450个,第四册约400个, 第五册约500个,合计2500个。词汇量成为学生学习英语的一大障碍,很多学生对英语学习产生了畏难情绪。不少单词的拼写太难,如gymnastics,Portuguese, Argentina,auditorium,exhibition,lemonade,requirement等等,这对于七年级的学生来说记忆起来很费劲。面对这么多令人望而生畏的单词,教师如果逼着学生机械地记忆,势必使学生对英语学习失去兴趣乃至厌恶,稍有不慎就会使学生彻底放弃英语学习,甚至影响其一生的发展前途,这无形之中给教师的教学增加了新的压力。

《New Standard English》教材的特点:

1、教育理念先进科学

本套教材遵循国内外先进的外语教育思想与原则,充分体现国家《英语课程标准》(实验稿)所倡导的外语教育理念。在编写原则上,遵循“题材—功能—结构—任务”的原则,为学习者努力营造语境,精心设计具有新颖性和可操作性的内容。教材的设计遵从语言教学规律,体现了学用结合、学以致用的原则。教学内容和语言材料的取舍和安排,贴近学生生活,以日常生活为主要内容,逐渐适当增加社会生活内容的比重,同时适当安排一些文学性的篇章。每册教材以主题为纲,以运用性任务为目的。词汇、语法项目和功能用语的选择和安排,均以主题为出发点,以运用英语的任务为形式。教材中的练习,按照真实运用性任务设计,避免了单纯的模仿和机械的重复以及脱离上下文的孤立猜选。全套教材有利于青少年学生身心的可持续性发展和终身学习能力的形成。教材的编写以学生为中心,按学生身心发展规律与兴趣特点设计大量语言活动,以激发学生的学习兴趣和求知欲。这既体现素质教育的要求又遵循语言教学的理论,具有可操作性。

2、 中国文化与世界文化有机结合

本套教材以开放和兼容的心态介绍外国文化,使学生从小就能放眼世界、扩大视野。同时在学生用书及教师用书的编写中,注意培养学生对本民族文化的了解与热爱,培养学生运用英语向世界介绍中国文化的能力。如:在第二册第4模块 (Education) 介绍“希望工程”,要求学生向外国人介绍希望工程;第7 (Feelings and impressions)、12模块 (Manners and customs) 介绍“国际交往中的文化问题”;第10模块 (Laoshe's teahouse) 介绍“老舍与《茶馆》”。第12模块要求为来中国的外国人编写一份礼貌须知。

本套教材还在每个模块设计“世界各地(Around the World)”的专栏,从世界的眼光(而不仅仅是从英语国家),或者中国的眼光,介绍世界文化。

本套教材在跨文化教育方面采取了最有效的跨文化教育方法:体验法。在整套教材中设计了中外4个主人公和他们的朋友,很多课文介绍的是他们的国际交往,也有很多相关任务与活动是关于国际交往的,让学生通过体验同龄人的跨文化交往、体验自己亲身的跨文化交往,达到跨文化教育的目的。

3、 兴趣与意志力有机结合

本套教材注重教材的趣味性,在课文、学习活动、运用任务、练习活动、补充学习资源等各个方面,都充分尊重学生的学习兴趣。比如在第二册第3模块 (Journey to space ) 的任务完成中,就让学生学习有关于星球的知识,在该模块中,学生对其他星球的神秘充满着好奇感与探索欲,因而在其充满兴趣的活动中,他们能更好地记忆单词,理解教材。

本套教材在坚持趣味性的同时,有意识地通过“学会学习(Learning to Learn)” 这一学习策略专栏,和一些专门的学习活动、运用任务,甚至一些课文(如第二册的第1模块),来培养学生学习英语所需的意志力。

要做好二套教材的衔接工作,使学生顺利的从《Go For It 》过渡到《New Standard English》,我们还得从以下几个方面着手:

(一)、心理的衔接

众所周知,英语是教学中比较困难、棘手的学科之一,为数不少的学生外语学习能力薄弱,外语成绩低下,一上英语课就心情烦躁、思维受抑,继而放弃外语学习。七年级学生,本来是满怀希望学好外语的,然而随着字母阶段的学习结束,他们的好奇心也随之而去。虽然《Go For It 》无论其在倡导和鼓励任务型语言教学的理念方面,还是在教学过程的实际操作中,都能巧妙地将话题、功能、结构和任务融为一体,更是形成了科学的循序渐进的生活化的学习程序。但毕竟这届学生多独生子女,《Go For It 》中大量的词汇使他们产生了畏难的情绪,怕背单词,怕吃苦,听课习惯和笔记习惯也不一定好,学习中遇到的接踵而来的困难和问题渐渐挫伤了他们的积极性。相当数量的学生开始怀疑自己是不是学习外语的材料,动摇了学习外语的决心,丧失了自信心,产生明显的心理抑制障碍,继而产生厌学、弃学的行为。

而如今为了适应《New Standard English》(八年级上)的教学,我们又不得不把七年级的两套不同教材中出现的词汇与语法点补充传授给学生,这在一定程度上一定会加重他们的负担,还会让部分学生产生彷徨甚至抵触心理,以至更加地反感英语。这就需要我们老师先帮助学生作好心理上的衔接。如种花需要土壤一样,我们的教学只有有了情感的土壤才能开出更艳丽的奇葩,这也是争取学生配合的前提和关键。心理学研究也表明,有效的学习和智力发展全赖于正常的心理活动,健康的情绪、坚强的意志、良好的性格特征以及和谐的人际关系等均有助于促进学习活动的顺利进行,使人的潜能得以有效的发挥。反之,不健康的心理则会阻碍正常的学习活动,抑止人的潜能,乃至影响人的各个方面。所以,我们首先要多与学生交流,帮助学生认识到补充这些知识的重要性与掌握这些知识的可行性,使他们在心理上有一个很好的衔接。

(二)、语言知识的衔接

元认知知识(metacognitive strategy)指学习者对语言本质和语言过程的看法和观念。它主要指学生对其学习过程进行反思的基础。学生在学习《Go For It 》的一年中心理上还不成熟,学习动机还不是很明确,学习有时凭兴趣,自觉性不强,在知识的记忆上记得快,由于不反复,忘得也快,自我反思的能力太薄弱,而且对英语学习缺乏一种持久而稳定的态度。所以在教学《New Standard English》(八年级上)时,要让学生更好地认识到八年级英语在初中英语教学中所起的过渡作用,形成系统而完整的元认知结构。

其次,《Go For It 》与《New Standard English》(八年级上)在内容上还有不衔接的知识点。学完《Go For It 》(七)要过渡到《New Standard English》(八年级上),我们必须先教学一种词和一种时态,即形容词的比较级和最高级以及一般将来时的构成和应用。因为这两大知识点在《New Standard English》(八年级上)的Module 1中就已经出现,而学生对这两大知识点的认识几乎处于盲点,如不处理好对这两大知识点的教学,就会使以后的教学举步唯艰。在教学中我们还得遵循循序渐进的原则,决不能因为赶教学进度而对两大知识点实行轻描淡写、蜻蜓点水式的教学流程。我们还是要按照对知识的呈现、操练、巩固和运用的顺序教学,以避免学生出现“吃夹生饭”。正所谓“磨刀不误砍柴功”,只要作好这些知识的教学衔接,相信日后的教学定会顺畅得多!

(三)、重视英语学习方法指导,做好学习英语习惯的衔接

学习策略(learning strategy)指有助于语言学习的学习方法和行为,包括认知策略(cognitive strategy)和元认知策略(metcognitive strategy)。认知策略是指能直接促进语言学习的具体行为,元认知策略主要用来监控和管理语言学习的过程。其中认知策略对于培养学生的自主性起着至关重要的作用。

在英语学习中,听、说、读、写各项技能的提高相辅相成。翻开《Go For It 》课本,不仅版面设计充满新意,而且在内容和结构方面更加贴近学生的生活。学生一拿到课本后都爱不释手,迫不及待地翻阅。每个单元的选材都来源于学生的学习和生活,紧紧地与学生的年龄特征、认知结构、生活经验联系在一起。如第一册的十四个话题:认识新朋友、教室里的物品、家庭成员、食品、购物、电影、参加社团、生活习惯、学习科目、国家与语言都是学生熟悉的话题,生活中经常能碰到的事情,所以学生容易接受,学习热情自然也高。教材设计大多是听说读写材料。每个单元都有语言活动,且内容不同,形式多样,学生对这些活动充满兴趣,所以大家都能情绪高昂地参加pair work, group work, games等活动。学生们充满了自信,开心地练习说英语,教室里常常充满了欢歌笑语。

随着教与学环境的改变,八年级教学更富于指导性,学生的英语学习也更趋于个体化。相比于七年级,八年级英语教材无论从内容还是练习形式上,都有大幅度提升:内容丰富,涉及面广,练习形式多样,读写要求更高。因此,教师在教学《New Standard English》(八年级上)时,我们可能更要注重在平时的教学中渗透对学生自主学习能力的培养,重视给予学生学习方法的指导,以使他们形成一种良好的自主学习英语的习惯。我们要指导学生从以下几方面着手:

1、预习。许多学生在七年级时未养成预习的习惯,但由于书本本身安排的步骤相对较清晰,学生即使不预习也能跟上教师的节奏。而《New Standard English》在教材的使用上则具取舍性和重组性。所以,教师从一开始,就要重视培养学生的预习习惯,把指导预习作为英语教学的一个重要环节,指点预习方法,规范预习要求。依据教学内容的不同,让学生搜集背景资料,借助工具书学习生词,初读课文了解大意、画出疑难等等。学生在预习中发现问题,课堂上对症解决,课后及时整理复习。

2、积极参与课堂活动。英语课堂是教与学过程的最重要的环节、教师应精心设计教学活动,新知识的呈现尽量由旧到新,由学生观察分析旧知识引出新知识。由于《New Standard English》中也有许多生单词,所以在教学阅读课文时,尽量多安排时间学生阅读,了解大意并复述课文。指导学生积极参与小结提问。在这一环节要注意全面检查学生的学习情况,提问的面要广。另外,还要指导学生课堂议论。课堂议论可以是小组讨论,也可以是老师领着讨论,必要时可进行课堂讨论,以此来培养学生的批判性、发散性的思维能力,增强他们解决问题的能力,训练他们的口头表达能力。最后要指导学生作好课堂笔记。

3、及时巩固复习。督促学生认真完成作业,包括口头作业(如朗读、背诵、会话、复述等)和笔头作业(如书面作业、书面表达等),及时整理总结,使课堂知识系统化、条理化。通过比较、分析、归纳,巩固提高、形成能力。

4、指导学生开展英语第二课堂的活动。如唱英语歌、开英语晚会,演短剧,成立口语活动小组,组织书写和作文比赛等,寓教于乐,寓学于赛,造就和发展学生的多方面能力,以巩固课堂所学和陶冶学生情操。

5、拓展课外阅读。《New Standard English》安排了Around the world 部分,拓宽了学生的知识面,也有助于学生兴趣的培养。教师要激励学生拓展课外阅读,尤其是报刊阅读。通过泛读,激发学生的学习动机。推荐好的英语读物及各种声光辅助教材,扩大学生的阅读面和阅读量,以利于提高学生视听英语的能力。

(四)、评价的衔接

教学评价的目的是提高学生的学习兴趣和成就感。多重性的形成性的评价有助于学生学习情感的提高。在作业,课堂,单词小测,阶段测试,课外活动等方面,综合评价学生,让学生在不同的学习活动中找到成就感。

每一套教材我们在使用过程中都会碰到这样或那样的问题,但是针对不同的教学目标、教学内容、教学对象和教学时段,教师可以采用不同的教学模式和教学方法。我们实施新课程的核心理念始终是不变的,那就是学生的兴趣、学生的参与以及学生综合运用语言能力的发展。学生不仅要掌握语言知识,更要学会语言的实际运用。《New Standard English》正是以此为教学宗旨的科学教材,所以,作为教师,我们更应在实践中遵循这一宗旨。尤其是八年级学生经历了更换教材的重大变化,我们更要竭尽全力做好衔接工作,以使学生在英语的海洋中能得到更多汲取知识的快乐!
