HongKongisaworldsymboloftrade,enterprise,freedomandglobalinterdependence.Visitorscomehereforfashionandfood.Theworldconsumesyourelectronicsproductsandyourmovies.AndeveryAmerican,whohaseverwantedtotravelanywhere,haswantedtocometoHongKong.Thisis,itistrue,thefirstvisittoHongKongofaPresidentandafortuitousoneformethatIcancomeandwishallofyouahappyanniversary.ButitisnotmyfirsttriptoHongKong.MywifeandIhavebothbeenhereinourpreviouslives,oraswesaywhenwearebackhome,backwhenwehadalife.公务员之家版权所有

IwantyoutoknowthattheUnitedStatesconsidersHongKongvitaltothefuturenotonlyofChinaandAsia,butoftheUnitedStatesandtheworldaswell.Ourtiesmustgrowstrongerandtheywill.Andthispresentfinancialcrisistoo,willpass,ifweworktogetherwithdisciplineandvisiontoliftthefortunesofourneighbors.BelievemethereisnooneinAmericawhois

noteagerlyawaitingtheresumptionofrealgrowthandstabilityintheAsianeconomyandwearepreparedtodowhateverwecantosupportit.WealsoappreciatewhatChinaandHongKonghavedoneandthepricethathasbeenpaidtostablizethesituation.

Soletuslookforwardtothefuture,withallitsvitalityandallitsunpredictableevents.Somewillbedifficultbutmostwillbeverygoodif,asIsaidtoPresidentJiang,westayontherightsideofhistory.
